Chuck, a native Californian, moved to DC in 1991 for grad school. He joined Team DC Velo and began racing. His background in business and social work combined with his passion for cycling created the perfect opportunity for a successful independent bicycle shop. Chuck qualified for the World Duathlon Championships and competed with Team USA from 2008-2011.

If you’ve been to our Brookland location and you liked what you saw, you have Nick to thank. As our Brookland store manager, resident graphic designer, and all around idea guy, Nick has his hand in all things Brookland, and he designs kits for our Bike Rack Racing Team when the mood strikes. His best cycling memories are riding through Chicago late at night, and his favorite album to close a long day at work will always be 1984 by Van Halen.

Simon began cycling while attending college and has not looked back. He is an avid bicycle commuter, enthusiast road rider, and dabbles in mountain biking. He could be considered a big bike geek. Want to talk bikes? Rides? Trails? Interested in purchasing or building a bike? Simon would love to discuss options, answer questions or just shoot the breeze.
Walker’s love for bikes grew in the unlikeliest of cities: car-centric Houston. Walker first began repairing bicycles when a flat left him four miles from home. He decided to pursue wrenching full-time after moving to DC. Walker loves books, bicycles, beer and his wife, but not in that order. His ideal day involves waking up in the woods, but on purpose.

Charlie started jumping curbs and pulling wheelies on his mountain bike as a kid and was hooked for life, including six years as a professional mountain bike racer. 20 years later and his favorite thing is still going fast, and you can find him going fast on road bikes, mountain bikes, or on his All City Nature Boy singlespeed. If he could ride anywhere, he would quit real life, move to Italy, buy a van, and ride the Alps every day.
Bennett is probably the smartest person at The Bike Rack, but he still sold Charlie his skateboard, which was a big mistake. Bennett is a DC local, and also our longest tenured employee, having worked at The Bike Rack for almost ten years. He’s been on staff every year we’ve won the “Best DC Bike Shop” award, so he’s not saying, but he’s saying. You can see him rolling around on his trusty Surly Cross Check seven days a week.
Catch Jeff and his son biking around DC on their Kidz Tandem. At work, Jeff is a stickler for properly installed racks, fenders, dynamos, and mudflaps, and he firmly believes you WILL be happier on wider tires. A native Midwesterner who now savors every hill, Jeff is a member of the DC Randonneurs. He fondly remembers riding the backroads of the Poitou-Charentes region of France. Come by Q Street to chat with Jeff about double centuries and living car-free with kids in DC.
Joe grew up on a Mongoose BMX bike with pegs along with the other kids in his neighborhood and started riding more seriously when he moved to Washington, D.C. His favorite biking memory is sharing the love of cycling with his fiance and brother and getting them to ride more around the District. If he could ride anywhere he’d ride the Great Divide Trail or just bike pack around the mountain west.
Jon started riding when competitive running started to wear his body down, and he was cheap so he didn’t want to pay for gas. Jon likes that most of the employees at The Bike Rack actually race and love to ride. If he could, Jon would like to ride the whole Appalachian trail and around all the Great Lakes. He’s done Lake Ontario, so four more to go!
Kate has been biking for a million years. Little known fact: if you say “wheeeee” really loud, you go faster. Kate’s life at the repair stand began in college when she realized she could trade her bike skills for a six-pack. Her favorite time on a bike was in Vermont when she got to wake up every morning for a week and mountain bike on a Liv Lust Advance.
Assistant Manager, Bike Fit Specialist – Brookland
Matt loves riding bikes and getting to know all sorts of people who share the same passion and enthusiasm for cycling that he does. He has trouble picking out a favorite biking memory; he rides so much it’s a blur. His dream cycling trip would be riding in France, or Spain, or Iceland, or…
Shane loves working alongside and meeting fellow bike nuts. His best cycling memory was being off the front at the Poolesville Road Race, solo by six minutes. Shane’s dream trip is to go to the Tour de France.
Val started regularly biking when her best friend gave her an old Bianchi Avenue. She fell in love with the bike and got addicted to riding around the district. Her favorite parts about biking are the closeness to the concrete and the rush of air you feel flying down a hill. She will continue biking for the rest of her life and never give up her Bianchi.
